Rainbows
The colors of the rainbow span a great spectrum to the eyes
But do the colors exist if they are not recognized?
Of course, a wave is still given and echoes a distance
But if it is not seen does it still retain essence?
What is real and what is not is not determined by the mind
Of a being, a person, but what can only be defined
As a feeling. An essence. The ability to be there.
If it is viewed as abstract it may not receive the care
That it needs to feel valid, and it might not really matter
To a color or a tree in the woods that falls and then shatters
To a conscious mind; to a caring soul
From the time we are young, to the days we are old
We care to know that we are all valid
And some are born with a straighter pallet.
But if we do not learn that who we are is okay
Our equal existence may not be the same.
In our books, in our movies, in our schools, on our streets,
In our laws, in the churches, in magazines, and on IDs
The subjects of normativity are not seen by the majority
And are oppressed, forced to change, and treated disproportionately
Our being is not different, our heart is the same
There’s no moral inconsistency, no disease in our brain
We can be just as happy, just as loving, just as smart
Because, really, we all have love in our hearts.
Maybe not in the same form, because love is not really a form
But more like a rainbow; it’s the way we are born.
There are so many colors, in all different shapes
Some curves, or edges, some don’t want a mate.
Some are Non-Binary, some just aren’t romantic
Some are not attracted, but that doesn’t make love static.
Some are gender fluid, some are a-gender
Some are gay, and it does not end there.
Whether lesbian, bi, gray, trans, or demi,
You are deserving of life, you are deserving of everything.
You are valid, you are loved
Your sexuality or gender or lack thereof.
Does a rainbow, that has never been seen, have color?
It is a wave and a spectrum like no other.
It seems philosophical, but it applies much more than some other questions
Because a rainbow is always real, is always valid, is always true.
A rainbow always has color, whether seen or unviewed.
