Quiet Speech

By: Foy Reed

Quiet

holds breathe while trying to blend in,

Quiet

Like a lamb in wolves clothing I hide.

Surrounded by family and friends who can easily turn

to strangers and foes.

Quiet

Reframe from speaking, reframe from expressing my anxiety and

shame- yet my joy and pride.

Quiet

Play the part as if you’re on stage in your own reality.

Quiet don’t speak your truth to those who calls you a lair.

Quiet don’t speak your truth when they can’t understand.

QUIET don’t risk losing everything for simple freedom.

For the future is not promised.

So Speak,

Speak to release your truth.

So Speak,

Speak so they can see your best.

Speak so they can see your happiness.

So Speak,

for faith comes from words of validation.

So Speak,

For luck comes from changes.

Speak,

Like a sun radiating on the earth.

So Speak

Releasing breathe as if coming out of water.

Speak.
