We saw the gallows
From the assembly place
..roll...call...
Three witches in chains---
The servant,
A sad-eyed angel child,
An old medicine woman.
Out of the trial came,
The verdict.
All eyes were on the angel.
She was almost calm, biting her lips.
The gallows threw its melancholy shadows over her.
Three victims…
Mounted together onto chairs…
Three necks…
Placed within the nooses.
‘’Curse you all!’’ the two cried.
The innocent child
---Silent---
‘’Where is God?’’ I asked
Three chairs tipped over
The sun setting
One rope still moved
One child still---alive---
This child struggled through--- life and death---
A voice inside me answered
Here she is ---
Hanging on the gallows---
