Of Promises

Location

First day of kindergarden, the promise of new things.

Proud parents with tears in their eyes, let go of the tiny hand.

Child comes to the table as the bank page, eager to learn.

School years go by, like seasons turned,

faster and faster, until its all learned.

Now it is my time, to try my own wings,

but find I am teathered by so many economic things.

Grants and loans and the promises of scholarships,

all depend on the stroke of someone elses pen.

I really like the concept and your choice of words. :) I wasn't sure if you were going for a specific rhyme scheme; it seemed to change a bit.
