Privilege not a Right

Higher education is a privilege not a right.

I know what it is to be hungry at night.

I know what it is like to walk with the ‘free lunch tray’.

I have felt the embarrassment of hand down clothing from an older brother as a girl.

I have seen drive bys.

I have heard the gun shots of the concrete jungle too long.

I believe in fighting to break a poverty cycle.

I promise myself that I will not forget where I came from.

I plea with myself to work three jobs and still study.

I can’t foresee the future.

I have a feeling it will beautiful.

My kin won’t know this pain, for I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.

I feel I have the right to become ‘The Privileged’.

Why not….
