The Princess and the Dog

Location

When I was younger
I asked my mother if I could live
like a princess in fairytales.
She told me I already was.
She governed
over all that I wouldn’t learn about
until I wore her jeweled crown.
She told me that I would rule this queendom
because there was no room for a king here.
That princes were only good for ringing my bell,
knocking me up,
knocking me out,
and slamming the door when they left.
