A Prayer
There is no one within sight.
In the darkness my soul drifts.
Who will look in my mind's night?
In this cage there is no light.
Pain often comes to leave its trace.
To hide from the world passions pure.
Thought is branded on this face.
Little strength remains to again stand.
A sudden ray of light, for it, I wait.
From my Lord, who bade me be.
From his Book, I read and pray.
Will he guide? Doubts riddle me.
Our Creator, hear my wordless plight.
Silence stills and my mind it holds.
I speak not to people but my flight.
To you when the burdens bear heavy.
Let me lift to freedom my darkened sight.
