Poetry
The "Once Upon a Time"s and "the Last Week I"s never really seemed like much
When such a better way existed
To tell a story.
And when I took into account all that I knew about
Writing and words and expression
I found that things just come out easier.
When you focus more on the words you use and the way you use them
Everything else feels less important
And the story just comes easier.
That's not to say the story can be found easier,
But, well, I've found that sometimes half the fun
Is figuring out what the hell this all means.
And knowing I'm a part of this, I guess that's what I like,
It doesn't take an application or a competition
To call yourself a poet.
If you have a pen and some paper, a computer, even just your voice,
You could one day find yourself spewing poetry like a faucet
With your name on a board with the greats.
Because isn't that just what everybody else did?
Shakespeare and Dickenson and Poe
All started out with just one word.
So why should I, or anybody, spend my time
Soaking in all the beauty, pain, and madness that this crazy world has to offer
Without taking the time to tell about it.
