Poem for a First Love

I’ll never forget when I first saw you,

And I knew.

I had never felt this way before.

You ran to me,

Like nobody else was there.

We couldn’t be any more different,

You and me.

My teacher told me opposites attract.

I didn’t understand,

But now it all makes sense to me.

“I love you.”

And though you don’t say it back,

I know.

You press your head against my leg,

And nod off to sleep on the edge of my bed.
