Poem about boy from a book I read

Asher Lev thrown between two destinies, Art and Religion

Determined to follow both, but drawn to one

Unable to stop and destroys himself

When he realized he couldn’t be both,

It was already too late

He realized that the ones

That truly respected the

Art he drew

Were not

Of the ones he truly wanted

So he tried to mend

The broken hearts by traveling

This pleased his father

And he gained the hearts of

His loved ones,

The ones he truly wanted to

Please.

But when he made the

Two heart breaking

Crucifixions

Both alone

Show the unfinished

Themes.

He broke more hearts.

Along with the

Ones he gained back,

His mother’s, his father’s, and the Rebbe’s.

So all the

 Trust and respect for

His gift of art

Fell in

A pile of waste.

When he realized that in his heart

He knew art was

Both demonic and divine

It was too late.
