Pieces With Feelings You'd Forgotten
Soulful confession kept in time with their rhythmic counterparts
Did you ever truly care like you said?
Or was it a lie
To make me believe the impossible possible.
How could I have been so stupid?
Of all the people who can say they’ve seen my soul
And held my heart in their callused palms,
Its becoming damn near impossible to find the ones that haven’t
Walked out.
The walls keep the bad thing out but they block the love
If there’s any left to be found.
Dying to feel like all those love songs;
Like those poems and fairy tales.
Trembling scared that I’ve been misled.
For how could one give so much to have another
Steal it.
Innocence and trust are fragile and light in their pockets.
Deadly silent steps of running feet while your conscience
Sleeps.
Was it all made up? Configured for convenience?
Sincerest hope begging for some kind of proof to the contrary,
Objection.
This pain can’t possibly be in such ready supply.
My palms bloody and empty,
Sleeves barren of a soul.
Screaming to the stars to make it all okay
Make it all go away
Make you forget the sound of those running steps in your nightmares…
Those dangerous Cheshire smiles.
