A Photograph of Evergreens by the Ocean

“Longing we say, because desire is full of endless distances.”

In the end, him and I are laughing

to salty eyelashes in grey ice water,
we touch fingertips to brush hair off our blue lips,

and that night I find myself kissing the word

Tenderness.

Later I turn and part for one last look

at the blackened nights behind me

before I and that cavern

beside my lungs

set off through bright-white airport light,

to the next great love affair.
