Peril

Standing on a cliff side

Waiting for the fall

Staring down at turbulent waters

Listening to the sea birds' call

The black waves roiling

Curling against jagged rock

Inner emotions boiling

Like prisoners under your figurative lock

'To be or not to be, that is the question'

But if you decide to continue to be

Could you suffer the frustration?

The frustration in the trials of the world

You debate the matter with a furrowed brow

As the impatient waters below you swirl

Slamming you back into here and now

You decide you need to give up

You put down that dagger and forfeit the fight

A brutal reminder that you’ve had enough

As you give yourself up to the currents of life
