Perception: We Create Our Own Monsters
Gun shots ring
hasty words sting
A quickness to judge
And only peril is done
Perception although hard to alter
And slow to catch fire
Fixes the world
A new set of lenses
The world will never change to fit a description
But people can be the change they wish to see
Which lens do you look through?
A Freudian slip
A sneer at the unknown
If we can change our perception
Then many will no longer fear rejection
A child hides in the library
Dreading her own mind
Other’s snicker from behind
Not understanding they laugh
Spiraling her further into the black
We create the monsters we see
Monsters hiding under beds
Children murdering others so angrily
Words spin their webs
Clinging, choking the innocence
Never stopping to think
How deadly they could be
Take a step back
The perspective could save a life
A life that could eventually save the world
Then everyone’s lenses will be smeared with roses
One step at a time
One kind word
A smile to a stranger
Perception changes slowly
