People with Tattoos

Thu, 07/31/2014 - 22:40 -- Erin D.

are like storybooks.

They display themselves

like open books,

desperately waiting

to be looked upon

by curious eyes.

People with tattoos

are unpublished authors.

Sometimes pages upon pages

of arranged letters can’t sum up

experiences and feelings

like images can.

From the brain to the skin,

thoughts and erasable sketches

become permanent works of art.

Pictures and words,

big or small, are delicately drawn

in black, gray, or color.

When men or women,

young or old,

pass by with their ink showing,

ask them what their stories are,

for as the saying goes,

“Never judge a book by its cover.”
