The Pebble

There is a pebble in my shoe.
sharp pain with each step I take
On the upward swing of my right leg
I give my foot a shake
The pebble is loosened and I take
A few sweet steps
Absent of the stabbing in my sole

Ouch
The pebble has returned
Rolled back to its former place
As pebbles often do
Annoyed I kick forcefully to
Dislodge the problem from my shoe
The curb catches my foot
And suddenly the pavement rises up to meet my face
