I may be a pawn

But you are not my queen

I could never serve

One so selfish, one so mean

I may be just a pawn

But there’s nothing wrong with that

Any chess piece can take a queen

What do you make of that?

I am not just who I am

I am also my potential

I don’t think that you understand

If I save you, it’s accidental

I won’t lay my life down for you

I won’t be your sacrifice

I won’t be noble and true

Just to die for your vice

I am just a pawn, I guess

But I am not your pawn

I am just a pawn

And my life is a game of chess
