Parting

Now a downward glance, a slowing pace,

A somber smile,

A dismal face,

A gripping hug,

A handshake strong,

It’s time to go.

You don’t have long.

And now perhaps some shed a tear

While others watch with soggy eyes.

Oh, how we hate to say good-byes.

And with each parting I relive

Each painful parting from my past.

And oh, how much it hurts to know

This sad good-bye won’t be my last.

But when the pain resurfaces

My solace lies in Christ who bears

All of the burdens that I cast.
