Up & Out
Left and right, front and back people
Stand there. Inching closer to the doors that
Slide. All for
Saving their legs. The ding
Sounds a high pictched tone. A
Sudden jolt forward, everyone ushers
Strategically inside. Pushing,
Shoving,
Shifting until no more bodies can fit.
Some are left outside the doors to walk.
Safely packed in as the thick metal planks
Shut. The chamber lifts up & up & up
Skipping floors until the daylight
Seeps through the clear back wall.
Stepping out onto the pavement, no longer
Suffocating.
