Our Burden

Sat, 06/22/2019 - 15:48 -- Kai123

When I think about the civil rights movement its hard not to cry

I feel so deeply about my people,

For those who’ve lost their lives.

The systematic oppression that started long ago,

it’s oppressive, it covers us to and fro.

For years I’ve cowered in is size,

But it’s time for me to rise.

I mean it’s imbedded in our law systems,

Our police officers, our politicians.

All aspects of the government.

From past to present.

years ago I would not have been able to sit in the same seats,

Thinking like that makes my heart weak.

I’m scared if I don’t speak

It will be my children’s burden to keep

This poem is about:
My country
Our world
