Open and Shut
The complexion of a sumptuous smile
One so pure, almost tactile
May be consumed for a while.
An innocent cry of,
Why, oh why?
Echos a bitter breath amongst the ears.
Its dark, empty reply
Will only underlie
A puddle of glistening, salty tears.
The face of a lost friend
Blurred into a vast world, one uneasy to comprehend
Only strengthens the silence of a frown.
Listen to the yell of emptiness,
And it’s tenacious, upsetting words.
Causing laughter to be deferred.
The optmisim of one,
As bright as the sun
Is curtained by the truths of life.
They see the immorality,
The fatality and brutality
Slaughtering their smiles with a knife.
For what more is like a door
Than bliss throughout life,
Either open or shut.
