One Thing I Would Change

I hear these noises all around me

They don't bother anybody

A kid will be tapping his feet nearby,

And the clicking will make me want to cry.

Nobody understands how bad it affects me.

I cover my ears when people are chewing gum,

Or dig my nails into my skin when people hum.

Keyboards and high heels,

Long nails, pencils, and packaged meals.

They all make noises that are extraneous and dumb.

Hello, I am a misophonia patient.

Sounds trigger me everyday.

Music and talking are okay,

But if I could change anything,

I'd take all of the other sounds away.
