Old and New

Sat, 09/30/2017 - 18:19 -- Poem17

My supposed friend, you didn't invite me to your birthday party

My supposed friend, you yearn for me only for homework or quiz answers

My supposed friend, you are the bane of my insecurity

All this time, I believed it was ordinary for friends to behave like this

I deleted your contact and your existence gradually leaks out of my brain

I treat my friends now with respect and empathy, something that you lack for so long

My friend, you laugh as we converse about boy bands and teachers

My friend, you insist on waiting for me after school

My friend, you make jokes to cheer me up after a bad day

It was clear to see the contrast between you and my old friend

I cherish the joyful memories you bring that replaced my old
