An Ode To Writing

Can we ever describe our first sunrise, or our first surprise? I get a wonderful feeling every time I put words on a page. That inability to articulate that joy and bliss. Any stretch of absence I start to miss-the poetry and prose-God knows, He blessed me with this re-occurring twitch.       Without putting words on paper I start to itch. I have no choice but to scratch. It's a habit and an addiction, but one that's pleasing. Like mind blowing sex tantalizing and teasing. You see what I'm saying? Using comparisons for perspective. Finding words for evidence like a skillful detective. Evidence that the written word has influence and power. Raining on the heart like a literal shower.      If writing had parents, they would be vocabulary and imagination. A writer can transport himself and others into any situation. Its offspring would be word placement and punctuation. Know that poetry or prose can deeply touch a person, people, state, or nation.  No exaggeration-just ask people who grew up reading books. Pages filled with characters, story lines, and unexpected hooks.      Ask those who read how it influenced their lives. Took them to different places and made them feel alive. I'm talking about poetry and prose that makes us think and dig deeper. I said all that to say, "This writing thing for me is a keeper."
