Ode to the Ocean

I open my eyes and take in the sight
We’re finally here and I just can’t believe it!
It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before
Nothing can compare to the ocean’s allure.
I run onto the sand and into the crashing waves
I dive deeper and deeper following the fish
All colors of the rainbow swimming into the open sea
All shapes and sizes from a boulder to a pea

I follow the fish for a while
Until we come to a beautiful coral reef.
Its pastel colors could not be accurately described
Nor could words so beautiful be transcribed
Families of fish were swimming together
Meeting other fish in what seemed to be ways of saying hi
It seemed to me like it was a suburb
Making bubbles through little blurbs

Could it be that they lived like us?
Was their swimming equivalent to our walking?
Both of us are carnivores and herbivores
Could we share even more?
I swam around a little longer the thoughts playing in my head
I wished I could stay forever
But I knew it was nearing time for leave
And I had a long way back in from the sea

I would be sure never to forget this magical place
Filled with the teeming lives of the oceans inhabitants
All of beautiful colors and sights
Will surely be in my dreams tonight
