Numbers: Based on a True Story

In the voice of Caleb Gordley

Chillin’ with the boys, house party on Davidson St.

10 p.m., music blaring, females staring, conversation takes place,

A good time being the outcome.

9 drinks down the hatch, the buzz of the beers breathes fire on my “twenty/twenty” vision. Doubles and triples of everyone and everything,

8 games of pong taken care of, champions all around.

7 blunts light up the night sky, each puff brings along a new star.

6 minutes away from home after,

5 hours of being at the party, “see you laters,” were said, hugs and handshakes and plans of hanging out tomorrow.

4 miscalculations:

Entering the wrong house, the one next door, I was wondering why my key didn’t work.

Yelling at the owner believed to be an intruder, the owner yelling back at me, the neighbor.

A sudden realization of the moment at hand.

A gun being drawn in self defense.

  Bang!

            Bang!

                     Bang!

Hot lead hitting my left leg, my right arm, and the space between my eyes.

2 families forever changed,

            A sudden darkness,

1 life lost.
