Now I am me and now I swim

An echo is formed when the words collide on your skin,

And everything lingers because these echos come from within.

Poetry speaks in echos lingering in your mind,

Enveloping the ways of expression that cleanse you from the dark

And now you see the light.

There are trials that  stick to the body like thorns,

And silence is the demon waiting at your door,

For a chance to enter and destroy,

But these words are your home and you are safe within them.

I remember the lonely days when life took the reigns,

And being different was what kept you away from the world,

Because their eyes were daggers,

When learning to be yourself was testing the waters,

When you didn't know how to swim,

And drowning felt like comfort, well I dwell at the shallow end.

I picked up my pen and the words flow  out effortlessly,

I learn to find my way back from the sea onto solid land,

And I learn to breathe and see the sun,

And quench my thirst when I had nothing to believe in.

I could start believing in myself when the echoes ran around me,

I listened to the sounds and watched the seasons changed,

And the days started to add and i was okay.

I was okay to be myself different from everyone else,

Because it does not matter who you love,

It only makes sense to express it to the one,

Who makes everything make sense.

Poetry kept me honest when deceit tried to embrace all these things,

They thought I was.

Well I am not selfish, I am not a sin or naive,

I am a person with the capability to be who I will and love the sun and the stars and the moon

and the sea,

I can love just like you, it isn't any different.

And now you see,

Poetry was the safety, the echoes at night,

When the world came crawling too close and obscured the light.

But now I am free,

I am not drowning,

Why I write seems foolishly stated,

When the reason is safety, and gives me life and motivation,

Now I can swim, now i can be, now I can love,

And now I am me.
