Not Guaranteed
Everyone thinks they are guaranteed tomorrows,
So they never bank on the future’s sorrows,
No one takes the time to smell the flowers.
They’re much too busy building towers,
Because people do not yet understand
The fact that their towers will not forever stand,
That it doesn’t matter how many you may build,
Towers will never leave your heart fulfilled.
That void inside cannot be filled with things,
Its only temporary, the joy that brings.
Do not count on falsely guaranteed tomorrows,
And don’t forget to bank on future sorrows.
Beauty is a short and fleeting affair
And of this fact you must be very aware
Your youth will not last you forever
Keep this in mind in all things you endeavor.
Dance in spring, do not tarry until fall,
You must not wait for Time’s Final Call
Because there are no guaranteed tomorrows
You must make sure to bank on future’s sorrows
Lest they come on you while you lay unprepared
Like the doe who in trap has been ensnared.
