Not a Flag, nor Miss Liberty

Wed, 04/19/2017 - 12:55 -- rmae619

If I were a Flag flying high above,

I'd represent freedom, innocence, greatness and love,

But the Flag we have flown is a flag bear-none,

For great and innocent It has not become.

It's Red represents blood shed by every race,

Fighting for equality in employment and education,

It's Blue represents tears covering every gender's face,

Fighting for acceptance with love in every generation,

And White represents the eyes of all of our youth,

Watching as their elders fight with neglect to the truth,

Alas, we may be free because of the brave,

But does our freedom represent all that is enslaved.

If I were Lady Liberty high in the sky,

I'd torch hate, prejudice, disgrace and lies,

I'd represent glory of the new world to come,

One of reconstruction, with love overrun,

I'd fight for all lives, all beliefs, and all dreams,

I'd hope that my sewing can mend up our seams,

But I am just one person, just as you, just as he,

And one can only accomplish what one can believe,

It is up to us all to show to each generation,

That acceptance and love exist without violation,

Violation of our rights and our liberties,

To be the people we choose in the land of the free,

Although I'm not Miss Liberty, nor a Flag on a pole,

I know change for our nation begins with one soul.
