Not a Child Anymore

Change is inevitable.

Young or old.

Questions change

From “What is your favorite school subject?”

to “Do you know what you’re  going to major in?”

From “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

to “Are you working yet?”

From “What’s your favorite color?”

to “How do you feel about current events?”

Choices change.

Choosing what college to go to

instead of what game to play at recess

Choosing what meal plan to purchase

instead of what to eat during snack time

Choosing to follow the crowd

instead of being yourself

Thoughts change.

Worrying about finances

than who I’ll sit by at lunch

Obsessing over wardrobe and trends

than Santa or  the tooth fairy

Hoping to be successful

than to go to a sleepover

Habits change.

Binge watching on Netflix

rather than watching Disney or Nickelodeon

Staying up late to finish long school projects

rather than going to sleep early at bedtime

Spending countless hours on social media

rather than playing outside

It’s hard to forget

you are changing.

Through

Every question asked,

Every choice made,

Every new thought,

Every habit created,

The world reminds you,

You are changing.

And in the end,

You are all  grown up.
