Nostalgia

Absence of remembrance, how horrifying must be!

To exist without the tender warmth

Of past lover’s embrace

The distant memories of places once visited

More distant than before

Luckily I do not live without nostalgia

Yet

It is without form, cannot be touched but felt

We all have felt it once before

I close my eyes

Enraptured by the familiarity of the past

Grandmother speaks gently to me of childhood stories

She too yearns for bygone times

Where life was simple, free of limitation

Although I can never return to those days

Through memory I relive what

Can no longer be relived

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
