Inspired by Albert Camus' The Stranger

Are you scared
     to think
that you will never understand
this life, little alone yourself
or your friends?

Are you frightened
     to think
of death, the after-life,
and how near it may be
lurking behind you?

Do you question
     your existence, the whole universe?
Do you think there is some type of order,
     rational explanation for it all?

And who said that there is?
Who said that humans will ever
fully understand
their self and other people,
this life and how it all works?

It is what makes us people, homo sapiens,
the thinking humans--
always rationalizing an irrational world,
always searching for an explanation
     even if there is none.
