The Night Before Elections
Twas the night before elections and all through the land
Americans were ready to elect a new man
Here I was 17 with a pocket full of hope
All I wanted to do was go out and vote
Realizing then I was far too young
I did some research just for fun
41.6% of registered voters didn't show up to vote
Now that put a huge lump in my throat
People don't vote if the weather is bad
Or just because the candidates are drab
Putting trust in adults, I was young and naive
Thinking they’d vote what's best for me
These Cotton headed ninnie muggins were going to mess everything up
They're going to ruin this country and leave us to clean up
I went to the polls to see what was the matter
Glittering generalities and mindless chatter
“Make America great again” they shouted, but what does that mean?
“I’m with her” they roared, it was all a bandwagon scheme
Complacent bystanders watching it all go south
Discouraged by negativity from the candidates mouth
Appalled and outraged at the lack of care
it was time for America to stop being the bear
I started thinking of ideas left and right
How could I get people to vote? How can I instill a fight?
Stickers aren’t enough, we need to do more
Bribe them with food as they come through the door?
No! Educate the youth so they're better informed
Create political efficacy that leads to reform
Declare a federal holiday, voting on Tuesday is wack
Make it required or people will slack
Attention all millennials our future is bright
If we show up to the polls with a vision in sight
Make your voices heard, it’s your constitutional right
Happy Election day to all, and to all a good night.
