That Night

Warm breath and strong smile

You could do no wrong but I could do no right.

The tension could be cut with a knife.

As I leaned into you

And I kissed you.

But you didn't know

That I couldn't be tamed

Or controlled.

But still, we kissed.

And later, you took me

And tried to make me your own.

But I couldn't be tamed

And nothing could hold me down.

No matter how hard you tried to hold me,

I would never be yours

And I would always be free.

But I think of that night.

And how I feared that I would lose myself

And let you tame me.

So I swallowed my fear.

And I ran.
