A New Story of Thumbelina

Once upon a time…

In a land filled

with the greenest grass,

The pinkest flowers, and

the orangest oranges lived

the most caring woman

of all, she had

golden thread like hair,

and a button like

nose. She was an

interesting lady for she

lived in a giant

oak tree in the

middle of an open

field. She would tend

to the flowers and

the oranges around her

but she had no

one to talk to

but the plants. She

had no husband to

have children of her

own so she decided

to look for a

witch. This witch was

very difficult to find,

you needed to make

an appointment for this

witch to appear but

the only way to

make an appointment required

a toe nail from

a wolf, a leaf

from the cherry-thorn

tree, and a golden

orange seed. All of

these she found and

met with the witch.

The lady begged the

witch to give her

a beautiful and lovely

daughter, so the witch

did just that. With

all the ingredients brought

by the lady, the

witch handed her a

golden seed and said

“you mist plant this

deep into the ground,

where no sunlight can

reach. The lady thanked

the witch and ran

back to her oak

tree to plant the

golden seed. The next

morning had come and

there was a colossal

buttercup flower with a

strand of hair like

golden thread. She lady

carefully opened up the

petals to find a

child. This child was

beautiful but not what

she asked for. It

was a boy but

the lady asked specially

for a girl. She

took the child to

the witch and demanded

she changed it to

a girl but the

witch refused. Instead she

put a curse on

the lady and it

shrunk her to be

the size of the

child’s thumb. The lady

was forced to go

home with this beautiful

boy where he would

place her into the

tree for her to

stay. The boy apologized

for not meeting her

wishes and took all

of her oranges, her

beautiful flowers, and dried

her greenest grass. The

lady had nothing left

and because all the

animals saw what the

lady’s soul was truly

made up she was

eaten by a little squirrel.
