The Need to Read

Location

People see me as a loud and talkative person

Who gets excited over the little things,

Like new ships for Glee, Shoes, Sherlock and the T.V. show Doctor Who?

But my favorite thing requires no noise

Except for the crackle that’s heard when a page is turned.

Imagine that, a student who appreciates the art of reading.

I enjoy the smell of books when they are new.

I don’t want a kindle; I want a real book that I’ll treat like a god!

I get excited for sequels and a new edition to a series,

Then I get furious at the author for making me wait so long.

I get frustrated when the characters do something dumb.

And I’ll curse the author who wrote that scene.

Like Suzanne Collins with Katniss Everdeen

And Rick Riordan with Percy Jackson.

I mean did Percy really have to lose his memory?

And does Suzanne Collins really expect me to appreciate that epilogue?

Can that epilogue even be considered an epilogue?

Take a note or two from Jo.

And Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn from Stephanie Meyer

Whoever said movies were better than books were clearly wrong.

Honestly, take a seat!

Reading makes me learn new things.

Cliché I know

But Rick made me obsess over Greek and Egyptian gods.

Apollo and Ra are my favorite and they are both gods of the sun.

And I love getting attached to characters like in Harry Potter.

You know it killed me when Fred died? Page 637 by the way.

I was in a glass case of emotions for weeks!

So call me a nerd

John Green is the nerdiest author I know

But he takes pride in being called a nerd.

because nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff.

Nerds are allowed to love stuff,

Like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it.

So I’ll stop loving books when Sev stops loving Lily.

Until then, “Always.”
