My Skin

Tue, 03/07/2017 - 13:06 -- npaige1

I am an educated Black queen.

I see me as the queen to be.

I think it is time for my people to see.

Today in time we are the ones to beat.

Don’t say I am pretty for a “darkskinned  girl”.

Dark Skin is not a badge of shame;

But a perfect opportunity for my fame.

No! My hair does not need to be tamed.

I am a masterpiece created by God.

Being Black in this society is considered odd.

My time on this Earth is not a waste.

Now, I'm just seen as a pretty face.

I am dripping melanin and honey,

I am Black without an apology.

No, I’m not trying to blend in,

I’m just a woman comfortable in my skin!
