My Music Taste
I like to think I was born in the wrong era,
I think sometimes it quite unfair, or,
Stupid how nobody knows who Paul Simon is,
Who’s Weezer? Cake? Beastie Boys?
Maybe I was raised with a different music taste,
The annoying pop songs leave a sour aftertaste,
I’d much rather listen to Kodachrome,
Rather than being forced to listen to bad music,
When I want to go home.
Searching E-Bay for vintage Ben Folds Five shirts,
Three dollars seems like all it’s worth,
But to me it means so much,
And I feel happy when I have that shirt in my clutch.
Playing guitar since I was nine,
Beatles and Cat Stevens was all very fine,
No interest for One Direction of Sia,
None of those songs were my ideal.
It could be because I grew up with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,
Knowing all of the songs like the back of my hand,
Being able to harmonize with McCartney himself,
I loved him so much, since I was left handed myself.
A habit I never grew out of,
And something I will always be proud of,
Something new, fresh, but dated,
None of my friends knew it was even created.
These facts are things I’ll often state,
And it’s still true up to this date,
Because I’d school you in music trivia,
Please, don’t take it personally.
