MY Life Outside the Rules

I sit in class and wait

My mind runs here and there

I don’t care about the words you say

The knowledge you give me, I don’t want to hear

Your class to me is monotonous

Frankly, I don’t give a damn

Nothing you say could help me

You’re a bore, ma’am

When you talk my mind gets fuzzy

I want to go to sleep

You give me so much homework

I don’t want one more heap

How could you imagine what we all go through

When you sit at your desk and grade

You tell us your school life was never this hard

Thanks, my day is made

I’m not going to be a scientist

Love to do math or teach

Why do you not understand?

My future is nothing you could reach

You want to live your life through me

You yearn to again be young

But my life has yet to be lived

My song is not yet sung

And so my dear, horrid teacher

I just want to say again

How much you can’ teach me what I love

So let’s just not pretend
