My Heart Is Like a Rainbow

My heart is like a rainbow; its colors swirl around,

Emotions rising in an arc from the clouds into the ground.

My red is brazen power, like a fire burning bright,

My orange is warm security, a lantern in the night.

My yellow is free and cheerful, a canary singing tunes,

My green is vast contentment, like a grassy field in June.

My blue is smooth and careful, like the swiftly flowing tide,

My indigo is peaceful, like the dimming twilight sky.

My violet is soft complexity, a fragrant petaled flower,

All of these emotions in a curving colored tower.

Its beauty beckons to me like a ladder in the sky,

I race upon its colors till I think that I can fly.

For when life presses on me and I have nowhere to go,

I'm uplifted when I contemplate the colors of the rainbow.
