I've walked along the shadowed streets
And also one filled with light.
Sometimes taking the path less traveled,
Though the easy course was in my sight.
Given time to plan my way
From a list that i was told.
But I know what I want to do.
I know my future's gold.
One occurrence scars my past
Whether by me or another.
Who some may know as a helping hand,
To me he is my brother.
I will not be dragged down
Or left out in the cold.
Behind closed doors that have been opened,
I see my future's gold.
The power of words through others eyes
Have found their way to me.
Through donated wisdom from above,
I'll cross the divided sea.
I will walk above what keeps me down,
And grow proudly from young to old.
I see ahead a better me;
I am my future's gold.

For the cause, I picked on that most closely matched the message I'm trying to convey.

I chose a cause that tied in the best with my poem. Although I'm not sure it's an exact fit, the reader's own interpretation will be what determines this.
