My Friend, None Other than Poetry
Location
Through school I met poetry, in youth I met poetry.
Longfellow, Frost, and Whitcomb Riley-
These men became teacher, scholars to me
And taught me lots, lots about poetry!
In time, I grew, and so did they!
They grew on me without delay.
I knew at once I had a friend-
A friend that'd stay with me to the end
My friend, none other than Poetry!
Lacking in meter and uniquely pure
My poetry was deficient and imperfect for sure!
But I found an outlet for unstatable words,
A form to express the beauty around me,
A way of uniting all those around me
All for one cause - all this in poetry!
As Time marches on its merry way-
My friend, dear Poetry, is there to stay,
And though life changes with every breath
I know one constant - it's poetry!
