My Eyes Are Opened

My eyes are opened to what goes on
Something I should have noticed all along
It’s the little jokes and murmurs that tell
Said in such a quiet sly way but really yells
Found out over encouragement can be too much
It can be over bearing; this kind of helping brings no such luck
And the good that I produce is seen by all
Especially those whose quiet jealousy yearns to see me fall
The little things which I have are adored by others
And it brings banter for its disappearance; envy smothers
I’m not one of boasting or being puffed up
I’m quiet about my accomplishments because of the reactions of others which is tough
Some congratulate and others scorn
So my eyes are opened now to what goes on
Something I should have noticed all along
