My Ancestors Came Across the Plains

Thu, 06/13/2013 - 16:06 -- bdavis

My ancestors came across the plains
to pursue a life where they could worship
This they did all for me
so I might not have to live as they

From New York to Ohio
Ohio to Missouri
Then to their beloved Nauvoo in Ilinois
Here they stay and life is good only to leave again

As they leave the persecution and Nauvoo,
that city beautiful
They push on through snow and ice
With great courage they come Winter Quarters

They are hungry, tired and many are sick
So many loved ones they would bury
Leaving them behind
As they search for a home in the West

As I walk in an Omaha cemetery
I think of them
Their lives
Their sacrifice to push to the Salt Lake Valley

My ancestors came across the plains
to pursue a life where they could worship
This they did all for me
so I might not have to live as they

So grateful I am this and every day
