Mountains

We've been in this valley
For so long
Been here for so long I've forgotten what the sky looks like
Sometimes I think we'll never feel the warmth of the sun again
More than any other thing I want
To lay on my side
And nestle my back into your front
Like before
But we don't touch
Because there's a chasm
In the middle of our bed

Deeper and wider
It grows until
I can't hear you calling my name anymore
Only echoes of echoes...of echoes
Side by side in a room
But I cannot get back to you
There's an ocean of unshed tears in the middle of this house
And
Home has drifted off
to an unknown place

Once we climbed on a mountain of hope
There were days
When the sun shone so close
It nearly blinded us to the possibility of the dark that would come
We were young
Untouched
And we were high on the paradise
We built in our dreams

Now the sun no longer warms us
And we're travelling
Side by side
But separately
Searching for our own new mountains
Yet praying we meet
At the same sky as before
