morning depression

she lies motionless in bed

i should get up, go to church

she remains motionless

for two hours more

left leg dangling

over the edge

i wish i had gone to church

hours go by

she sits up

homework. i have homework

i should do that

ten minutes

to slide off her bed

walk to the desk

and pick up her books

one hour spent

struggling through the words

what is this?

i' don't understant

i wish i went to church

a buzz

someone sends a picture

it's a lovely photo

she adjusts her phone's camera

and smiles widely

i don't look too bad today

maybe i’ll go running

feel as good as i look

but as she sends the photo

she wonders

if that was a pimple

or food in her teeth

no, wait, she hasn’t eaten yet

i should eat

then finish this

then run

five minutes later

her roommate finds her

lying in bed

motionless
