The plight of the artist is one unable to be understood by others,
By those who assume that an artist has it easy,
Those who believe that art is a commodity.
What they don’t realize is that an artist pours their soul into their art,
Losing a little piece of it to give that art life,
That an artist is their own worst critic,
That an artist defines themself by the sum of their work,
Measured by their own judgment,
And ultimately believes that satisfaction is beyond their reach.
An artist accepts that perfection is impossible to achieve,
And yet is continuously disappointed when their work falls short.
The plight of the artist is not one to be understood.
It is one to be lived.
