Mirrors

An isolated reflection

It is you, exactly you

Clouded by perception

Sensational brown eyes

Wish they were blue

Kinky curls reaching for the sky

Hair refuses to stay straight

Uncontrollable curves of my ancestry

Just to be a bit smaller

Radiant brown skin

Lighter would be best

Oh those robust lips

They could be thinner

A constant battle between the two

What is actually there

The truth

What you actually see

Perception

A perception that cannot be trusted

Clouded by stereotypes

Blurred by shallow standards

Destroyed by unrealistic expectations

A mirror

Its only job to reflect

But even a dirty mirror simulates bodily defects
