The Mirror

The mirror is open to interpretation

Not everyone sees the same thing

Words like "thin" and "pretty"

They are irrelevant to a mirror

Yet they matter to the reflection

Strange how no matter what others see and what others say

It all comes down to what the mirror shows

That is what is believed as truth

Perception is fatal

Numbers on the scale are not proof

What others say is not proof

Proof lies in a reflection of truth

Mirror mirror on the wall

Who is the thinnest of them all?

Truth be told it is not you

Starvation becomes the truth

This poem is about:
Me
My country
Our world

This poem demonstrates how young women are decived by what they see in the mirror.  Eating disorders are real in America and everywhere, and need to be explained so people understand.
