Midnight With You

Clumsy fingers and a careless thought

A bottle of ink bleeds into the papers

They are sprawled across the floor

The stain will never wash out

I clean up the dark dreams that gather

In my floorboards and drip down

Into the empty apartment below

No one will notice for years

The ghost of shadows I will never catch,

Your mess spills into me like vapor

It bleeds through me, never ending

This is the way you consume me

Your touch leaves marks on my skin

Every caress feels like a bullet

I am a crime scene, riddled with holes

My own soul leaks out of me

The smears of black on my fingertips

Invite wandering hands to inspect

You are unaware of what you see

You hold the remains of my heart

Even as dusk blossoms inside

I know that I will keep shining

I will burn so my light illuminates you

Until all that I am is dust
